The team of the international training Mental Health Promotion in the Youth Field is searching for a host/hostess function and assistant cook. This 10 days practical experience placement will support you towards an official and internationally recognised Praktijk Verklaring issued by Marlijn Academie (Netherlands). You will support the chef with breakfast, lunch, dinner and during breaks that will be created for the international participants from Greece, Italy, Germany, UK, Netherlands, Portugal, Czech Republic and Slovakia. 

This non-profit project is organised by several international working organisations in the Youth Work field, co-financed by Erasmus+. Objectives of organising a training on Curacao are to:
  • support local organisations working with and for youth in creating mental health promotion activities on the island
  • Connect Curacao organisations with European organisations
  • Create future international activities for young people from curacao and European youth work organisations, like youth exchanges, solidarity corps, training, etc.

Work location and timing 
The group of 30 people who will follow the training will be accommodated at Willemstad Resort, Rembrandtstraat 67nst, Willemstad - Curaçao. This location will be the place where you will have your practical experience.
From 4 till 13 May 2022 (10 days) with flexible working hours in consultation with the cook.

What's in it for you
  • Experience of working as host/hostess and assistant cook for an international group
  • It is interesting and instructive that cooking for participants from different European countries requires creative multicultural dishes and adaptation to multicultural eating habits. Creative cooking also applies to the submitted (dietary) wishes such as vegan and vegetarian dishes or adapted meals due to a food intolerance or allergy such as lactose, gluten or fish-free. When completing the hours and showing your qualities to the assessor, you can earn an officially recognised Praktijkverklaring. In a statement of practice (Praktijkverklaring), the employer indicates which work processes, skills and talents have been learned by the employee in the organisation. With the statement of practice, an employer can provide tailor-made training for employees in practice, which also offers opportunities in sectors with a shortage of personnel. Praktijkverklaringen normally costs about €1000 but in this case it will be sponsored by Marlijn Academie.
  • When you’re interested in international youth exchanges, solidarity corps or projects and training in the youth field, you have the possibility to connect with European organisations.

Core tasks
  • Working hygienically
  • Friendly and clear in contact with the participants
  • Preparatory and supporting activities with regard to the preparation of the meals
  • Present and offer the meals representatively
  • Cleaning kitchen materials and workspaces
  • Washing and sorting + cleaning up used crockery, pans, cutlery, etc.

Daily work
  • Taking care of breakfast and breaks partly independently
  • Portioning and preparing/replenishing toppings, bread and other necessities.
  • Making coffee and tea and preparing it with biscuits and other necessities.
  • Assisting the cook with lunch and dinner
  • Preparatory work such as cleaning, cutting and washing raw materials.
  • Performing simple kitchen tasks under the supervision of the cook, such aspre-cooking products to be processed, eggs, garnishing salads and desserts.
  • Serving the meals
  • Prepare the dining area for meals
  • Preparing the dishes and replenishing them in the meantime.
  • Portion and scoop the dishes.
  • Explain to guests about the products and are and people with submitted dietary requirements in it provided.
  • After the end, clearing tables and cleaning up dining area + cleaning tables and floor
  • Leave the kitchen clean and tidy
  • Washing dishes, tidying up, cleaning kitchen machines and workplaces + floor and waste removal.
